Pursuing The Cause Of Canonization
For Fr. John Lubey
Father John Augustine Lubey (1916–1999), a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington, DC, who served from 1943 to 1999. Father Lubey was known for praying with and over many individuals who experienced healing from cancer, disfigurement, deformities, broken bones, depression, and other serious conditions. Throughout his ministry, he consistently emphasized that God was the true Healer and that he was simply an instrument of God’s grace.
He is remembered as a humble and deeply holy man whose life reflected both physical and spiritual healing. Many people continue to seek his intercession for their personal needs, and his reputation for compassion and prayer remains strong among those who knew him and those who are just learning about his life and ministry.
Many of the individuals whose lives were touched by Father Lubey are still living today. Several of their stories are documented in two books by the late Diana Phelps, published in 2001 and 2002. We have also begun researching the healing testimonies described in Ms. Phelps’ books.
In addition, the Facebook page Fr. John Lubey includes several audio and video recordings of Father Lubey’s services. His humility and obedience were especially transformative for many, and his example continues to inspire faith, compassion, and devotion in those who encounter his story.

In the Name of Jesus, Be Healed
Her heart had received a grace of serenity
A friend of mine told me that once she went to Fr. Lubey's Mass very upset about the sickness of a friend. As Fr. Lubey spoke, she felt a great sense of peace come over her and she no longer worried.
Her heart had received a grace of serenity. So many people have told me that while listening to Fr. Lubey, they felt the peace of God come into their hearts. As Jesus tells us through today's Scriptures,
"Do not let your hearts be troubled, have faith in God and faith in Me." When Fr. Lubey spoke of the love and mercy of God, one felt it in one's heart. It was one of the many gifts God gave him.

"Fr. Lubey regularly kept in contact with many non-Catholics, as well as Catholics, and many came to him for blessings and prayers. One friend told me that when she met Fr. Lubey, she thought to herself, "This is what Jesus must be like." I personally believe that this man, Fr. John Lubey, was himself transformed by grace.
He lived and radiated from his very person the love of the Father and the mercy and healing of Jesus. His very person was an instrument of grace.

Each of you here today brings so many wonderful stories of Fr. Lubey and his ministry.
Any one of you could stand up here and tell us of Fr. Lubey's gentleness, of a blessing he gave to you or to a friend and of grace received. There are so many of you here today who have been touched directly and in a profound way by this humble priest. Your presence and your love are a testament to his life.
Many of you are aware of some of the more well known physical healings that Our Lord provided through the hands of Fr. Lubey - healings from cancer, broken bones, physical deformities, all sorts of diseases, brain problems, and many others.

Thousands of others have received a healing of memories, healings of inner hurts and psychic wounds. Others have been given the gift of faith or have returned to a faith left dormant. But all of us have been touched by the simple, humble life of this priest.
Indeed Fr. John lived a simple life, an evangelically simple life, as Jesus did. He trusted in God's providence and encouraged us to trust in God too. But Fr. John had two great treasures. He spoke of these treasures constantly. Of course, his greatest treasure was an intimacy with God. He exhorted each of us to such an intimacy. He said that God was our Friend and that God longed to share His life with us.
Steps to Sainthood

1st Step, Servant of God
IThe first step in the canonization process is the title “Servant of God,” which begins with the opening of the cause.

2nd Step, Venerable.
After a thorough investigation, if the person is found to have lived a life of heroic virtue, they may be declared “Venerable.”
03.
3rd Step, Beatification.
With verification of a miracle attributed to the person’s intercession, they may be beatified and called “Blessed.”
04.
4th Step, Sainthood.
For canonization another miracle is needed, attributed to the intercession of the Blessed and having occurred after his or her beatification. With canonization, the Blessed acquires the title of Saint.
